Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
